I am a storyteller, grant writer, and educator whose tool box includes theatre technique, spiritual practice, experiential learning, and scientific questing, all governed by the search for good pie.
Grantwriting is an honorable trade that accompanies much of this work, telling the stories of good institutions to those who might support them. I’ve worn the Development Officer hat with Taproot Theatre Company, Seattle Mime Theatre, Seattle Shakespeare Company, and currently The Church Council of Greater Seattle. Freelance clients include Communication Mark, Irish Arts Foundation, Naa Kahidi Theatre, and American Cultural Exchange, among others. I have a 75% success rate.
Since 1997, I’ve performed original work, appearing across the country at universities, museums, churches, and K-12 schools. My pieces have been commissioned by the Frick Museum (Pittsburgh), workshopped at ACT Theatre (Seattle), and selected as Artistic Picks by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Seattle Weekly and the Seattle Gay News. Residencies have included University of Illinois, Museum of History and Industry (Seattle), and University Congregational Church, (Seattle).
Formal performance venues are great, but there is a special pull toward connecting with special communities. Alongside these performances, I often use creativity as a tool for education and community development, drawing upon inquiry-based and experiential learning
I was the Founding Artistic Director of Seattle Public Theater from 1987 – 1995. During that time, Seattle Public Theater grew to nation-wide touring in its mission to produce theatre and educational programs which addressed issues of social justice, ecology, and the importance of barbershop quartets.
But wait! There’s the science education bit. Yes, I was an “imbedded artist” at the Pacific Science Center, overseeing their planetarium and demonstration stage.
I hold an MFA from the University of Nebraska and completed a four year extension course in theology and ministry from the University of the South.
